Lake Superior Agate Close Ups

With all the traveling that I have been doing, it has been a while since I played with my USB microscope.  I decided to pull it out this morning to take pictures of some old-stock Lake Superior agate slabs that I recently purchased.  I am using the slabs to make one or two agate windows, using pieces of 100-year old wood recovered from the bottom of Lake Superior.  While foiling some of the agate slabs last night, I noticed how incredible the agate banding is in some of the slabs.

For most of the photos I held the slabs up in front of a halogen light to get back lighting.

Moss agate....

Banding, banding, and more banding...
