Dunes to Beach Hike

The other night after closing the museum I went on a great hike with friend, Jill.  We started at the parking lot at the Sable Visitor's Center.  We walked through the woods, along the river,, to the foot bridge near Sable Falls, up into the dunes, down the bluff, east on the beach, back up the steps at Sable Falls, and down the non-maintained cross country ski trails back to our car.

I cannot stop taking pictures of the trilliums.  They won't be around much longer....

We looked in several places and along the way for morels.  No luck.  All we saw were beefsteaks.

This fragrant ground cover was up in the dunes.  What a sweet smell....

To the bluff of Grand Sable Banks we go....

Fishermen out on the lake....

Down the bluff we go....

Lots of rock....

Zooming in on people at the mouth of Sable River....

Mouth of Sable River....     It was tricky getting across the fast current on a skinny log.  The ski poles came in very handy.

Marsh marigolds...
