Astronaut Photos of Earth

For today's blog posting I decided to select some of the photographs taken by astronauts of Earth.

The photo below shows the earth's atmosphere....

The picture below is from Argentina.  The graphic didn't explain it, but it shows one of the glaciers, most likely the Perito Moreno Glacier.  This glacier is located in the Los Glaciares National Park in southwest Santa Cruz province, Argentina. It is one of the most important tourist attractions in the Patagonia.

The nearly 100 square mile ice formatin (250 km2) 19  miles long (30 km)  and is one of 48 glaciers fed by the Southern Patagonian Ice Field located in the Andes mountains. This icefield is the world's third largest reserve of fresh water.

Botswana salt mine....

The picture below shows the Richat Structure, also known as the Eye of the Sahara.  This is a prominent circular geologic feature in the Sahara desert of west–central Mauritania near Ouadane. This structure is a deeply eroded, slightly elliptical dome that is 25 miles in diameter (40 km).  The sedimentary rock exposed in this dome range in age from Late Proterozoic within the center of the dome to Ordovician sandstone around its edges (500-443 million years ago). The sedimentary rocks comprising this structure dip outward at 10°-20°. Differential erosion of resistant layers of quartzite has created high-relief circular ridges.

I love the picture below of Duluth, MN and ice on Lake Superior...

Below is a picture of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula....

The picture below shows an open pit mine in Bingham Canyon, Utah...

Florida's Biscayne Bay....

Some Kauai pictures...

The picture below shows the end of Waimea Canyon on the left and the start of the Napali Coast on the right (Kauai).

The picture below shows fingers of basaltic lava flows....

Now that I am a grandmother, I cannot resist the urge to post an updated picture.  The photo below was a screen save from a recent Skype session.  I am biased, but I think Keenen is a beautiful baby!
