Lake Superior Shoreline Hike -- Post 1

After arriving home from the Marquette show, I re-joined my friends, Jamey and Lois, to head out on an adventure.  Since the snow had melted, we were able to four wheel it into a remote beach east of Grand Marais.

We decided to hike east up on the bluff.

Some of the lichen mounds were big and fluffy...

Wintergreen....

We came across an area wherein a wind sheer had previously broken the tops off a whole group of trees...

Unusual shelf fungi...

The waves were 2-4 feet and rolling in...

Someone built this log holder.  There were three diagonal logs notched and connected to horizontal support logs.  Cut logs were loosely piled on top.

Lots of driftwood....

Scenes from the forest...

We found some snow -- and had a snow ball fight!

Then we headed down to the beach...

Continued tomorrow...
